Feminism in Japan

Hello!
It's getting hotter and hotter in Japan now and the summer vacation is going to start in about three weeks. I am hoping that people who suufered from natural disaster of rain in south part of Japan will revival in few weeks and will be able to have a nice summer!

Today I will answer to the questions of feminism relating to Japan, which is NO.19, No.20, No.22, No.24.

No.22
Q.How popular is this issue in Japan?

A. In Japan, the word "feminism" is not very popular or known by many people, especially the older people. We do have words which has similar meaning in Japanese but it is not used daily and as in my memory I haven't heard those words in even news or ath school classes much. Japan is a country which gives alot of respect to the tradition and follows it. I'm not telling that this is the wrong thing, but in Japan it takes a long time for new movement of new thing to be accepted by many people. You can tell that Japan accepts new things little by little, by seeing the movement of LGBT. LGBT is one of the gender problem same as "feminism". In Japan, few years ago in some places in Japan LGBT people got the right to get married legally but still in many places it is not legal. There are still many issues related to feminism in Japan and recently there was a news that female congressman tired to take her baby with her in to the meeting room because she counld find anyone to look after the baby but was stopped and the meeting couldn't start on time. There are some foreign countries which allows the female congressman to let them take in their babies with them to meetings and in Iceland the rule got changed and allows to bring the baby in. The Japanese governmet says they want to help child care and mothers' working situation to solve the decling birth rate problem but I think it will take a very long time by hearing this news.

Q.What is the Japanese ranking and how is the situation?

A.Japan was in the 114th place (out of 144 countires) according to the WEF (World Economic Forum)gender equality rankings for 2017. In 2016, Japan was in the 111th place so it has gone down and the ranking is the worst among the countries in G7.
WEF's gender equality ranking is ranked refering to women’s participation rates and gaps between men and women in the categories of politics, the economy, education and health.
Japan has improved in education category because more women were enrolled in higher education. But still in economic participation and opportunity, income gap is still very wide and hasn't improved much compared to other countries.

Q.Are there any activities by country? (especially in Japan)

A. There is an office named "Gender Equality Bereau Cabinet Office" which is 内閣府男女共同参画局 in Japanese. Their goal is to make a world where all man and woman can  active eqaully. To aim this goal they are opening a meeting thinking about what they can do about the law, budget, and plannig events and so on. This office is conected to the Japanese government so they can do big things because they have power and money than NPO groups and other private organization but on the other hand we, such as normal people can't cooprate so can't know very well.

Q.Are there any activities by company? (especially in Japan)

A. I search on the offical website of Japan Federation of Economic Organizations. Japan Federation of Economic Organizations is an organization which many or to say more most of the big Japanese company are joined. According to the report written by Japan Federation of Economic Organizations, the manegment level class female in the company has doubled in average in 2013 since 2008. The company which their top president has increased too. In most company, they started to hire more female when they are hiring new employees and in some company more than 80% of the employees are female for doing this for about 6 years.
On this report (https://www.keidanren.or.jp/policy/2013/082.pdf) there are more information about 80 companies (for example, Docomo, Casio, Sony and many other famous global companies), so if you are interested please go to this site.
