Q. When was the word 'feminism' born?
The word 'féminisme', means feminism in French was first used in 1870s, though there is a supposition that it had had already appeared before then. The first known use of 'feminism' is 1895, used by Mary Wollstonecraft. At that time, the word referred to women's rights or liberation. Feminism have helped women to gain the right to vote, make laws for controlling violences, obtain equal rights for jobs and to own property, to divorce, to have rights for birth control and to have possession thier own bodies.
Hubertine Auclert is considered to be a first person who expressed herself as a 'féministe'. She also describe the individuals who had worked for freedom of women is féministe in 1882. In 1892, the word 'feminism' was first used at a congress in Paris. The word began to be used in Great Britain in the 1890s and later in America.
